Into the Sands

Hey there,
I've started and stopped this blog several times over the past 4 years, but as Kaiti and I step into full-time ministry with you all, we want to provide (in addition to our monthly update) a place where you can more regularly read about what God has been doing here in Chicago. For the most part you'll find updates on the ministry we work for called Bridges International, but it will also include short stories, pictures, and thoughts from our daily lives as we pursue the Lord.

The reason for the name, "Into the Sands," is motivated by an evangelist named D.L. Moody, who lived and did ministry right here in Chicago. In the late 1850's, "Moody found himself increasingly attracted to children forced to live in the most degrading conditions imaginable. Most city missionaries avoided going to the neighborhoods and dwelling places of those on the lowest rung of society's ladder. Moody was one of the few who had the audacity and courage to go into the worst district of Chicago, 'The Sands.' Sometimes labeled 'Little Hell,' this is where Moody went to rescue souls." (Lyle W. Dorsett, A Passion for Souls)  Now I don't begin to claim that Kaiti and I's daily ministry calls us into the hardest districts of Chicago, but for us this title serves as a reminder that as we seek to follow the Lord, we too want to have the audacity and courage to go wherever God leads us, reach whoever God calls us to, and be increasingly attracted to show compassion to those in great need here in the city.

Logistically, we hope to be updating the blog pretty frequently. On the left side of the blog you'll find recent posts / updates. On the right side you'll find scripture we've been processing through and updated prayer requests.

We pray this would be a place of encouragement to you in your faith and would spur you on to pray for the Lord to be moving here in Chicago.

Thanks for reading and for praying. Feel free to leave your own prayer requests for us in the "Comments" section or by sending us an email/text/call. Love you guys.
